Bharathiar University was established at Coimbatore by the Government of Tamil Nadu in February 1982, under the provision of the Bharathiar University Act 1981 (Act 1 of 1981). The Act section 25 of chapter X1V empowers the syndicate to enter into an agreement with Central and State Governments and Private managements apart from specified purpose any other purpose not repugnant to the provision of this Act and also empowers to institute University Centres.
Accordingly, the Syndicate of the University, in its meeting held on 08.11.2006, has approved to establish interaction with industry to undertake and conduct courses under University Industry Interaction programmes and later, the syndicate, in its meeting held on 23.06.2008, established the Centre for Collaboration of Industry and Institution (CCII) as a constituent to identify and approve institutions to offer various Certificate, Diploma, PG Diploma, Advanced Diploma, UG and PG courses as Approved Institution Programmes under Centre for Collaboration of Industry and Institution programmes, utilizing their faculties and facilities by entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The CCII is an approved Institutional Programme Division under which industries are permitted to offer non-traditional / para professional / vocational / industry oriented Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma, Degree and Post Graduate Degree Programmes. The core aim of these programmes is to provide job opportunities by the Business Centres that offer the specialized courses.
