The Research and Development Ph.D Programme under Category-B offered by Bharathiar University is discontinued from July 2015 session onwards.

Bharathiar University offers Part–time Ph.D. (CATEGORY-B) programme to provide global opportunity to enter the research arena. Under this category, candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria can register for Ph.D. programme under a Research Supervisor recognized by this University.

The Research & Development Centre had started the Part-time Ph.D. (External) Programme during 2008. After implementation of the U.G.C. (Minimum standards and procedure for the award of M.Phil./Ph.D. ) Regulaltion, 2009 and vide the Registrar’s letter dated 07.09.2011, the R & D Centre has been followed the instructions and conducted the Entrance Test (written and oral) from July 2011 onwards.

For the purposes of admission to the Part time Ph.D. (Category-B) programme a candidate should have obtained a Master’s Degree in the discipline in which he / she wants to register for Ph.D. programme with a minimum of 55% marks (5% relaxation for SC/ST candidates) in the qualifying examinations under (10+2+3+2) system.

Further, as per the UGC regulations, the candidate who has acquired less than 55% (50% in the case of SC / ST candidates) has to give an undertaking that he / she is not eligible for teaching positions with endorsement of the Notary.

The R & D Centre has been monitoring by the following Committees with members from the Syndicate, HODs, and Deans.

Doctoral Review Committee

During the research period, periodically Doctoral Review Committee will be conducted once in a year for reviewing the Scholars performance and the scholars are instructed to complete the research work and to publish at least one research paper in a reputed journal (SCI journals for Science subjects) (first author: Scholar name with R & D Centre Address) before submission of the Synopsis and same has to submit to the R & D Centre for recordical purpose. After submission of the Synopsis, finally, the scholar has to be submitted a draft thesis for presentation and approval of the Doctoral Committee and to submit within the stipulated period.

For foreign candidates, the Review will be done through video conferencing. Separate Committee will be formed for video conferencing of foreign candidates with prescribed fee.

The soft copy of the thesis submitted to the Examination Section for hosting in INFLIBNET for accessible to all.
