Plasma material processing

Synthesis of new materials and processing of ores are carried out by transferred and non-transferred arc plasmas. Dissociation of zircon & sillimanite, synthesis of SiC & TiO2 and preparation of oxide coatings are carried out through thermal plasma route.

Low Temperature Plasma

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) concept is used to model the plasma arcs, plasma jets, plasma particle / material interactions. Plasma spraying, melting, evaporation processes are simulated and compared with measurements. Working of Hall Effect Thruster and heat pipes are simulated.

Plasma waste treatment

Thermal plasma, which is characterized with high temperature and high  energy density, is used to treat metal bearing wastes to recover metals and other value added products.  Aluminium oxide nano powder is produced by thermal plasma processing of waste Al dross. Cr & Fe metals are recovered from industrial waste using plasma assisted aluminothermic process.
