His current research interests have included pollutant removal from wastewater, biomass & biofuel production by microalgae as a renewable energy source. Research focused on bioprospecting of microalgae from marine and freshwater habitat and their low-cost production of biodiesel and bioethanol.
His research has been supported by various Government of India funding agencies like DST-SERB, RUSA, TNSCST, TANSCHE etc. - Phycoremediation technology

He has made significant research contributions in the role of microalgae in removing contaminants from palm oil mill effluent (POME) during his post doctoral research programme
