- Theranostic Nanomedicine for Cancer Diagnostics & Therapeutics
-
Nanomaterials have recently emerged as a remarkable and promising tool for cancer therapy and diagnosis, due to their broad range of intrinsic molecular properties. To overcome the current limitations of nanoparticles in drug delivery systems, attempts have been made to synthesize nanoparticles from biological materials for targeted cancer therapy
- Photons for Targeted Photothermal & Photodynamic Therapy
-
Near-infrared (NIR) light has high tissue penetration depth and NIR-responsive nanoparticles utilized for photothermal effects is called photothermal therapy (PTT). PTT is referring to light energy converted to thermal heat energy directly induces ablation of tumors, without any normal cell damage and side effects. Based on wavelength NIR is divided into three biological windows such as NIR-I (650 nm-950 nm), NIR-II (1000-1350), and NIR-III (1550-1850) in those various NIR wavelengths have different penetration tissue depth. Unique advantages of PTT as without normal cell damage because blood and soft tissues are transparent in the region 700-1100 nm. Novel NIR-responsive nanomaterials, PTT and PDT are able to provoke cancer cells apoptosis from the generated heat and reactive oxygen species (ROS), respectively
- Immune System Boosted Combinational Nanotherapy
-
In recent years, nanomaterial-based immunogenic cell death (ICD) to activate the whole-body anti-tumor immune response, including the redistribution and activation of immune effector cells, the expression and secretion of cytokines and the transformation of memory T lymphocytes. When used in combination with immunotherapy, the efficacy of nanomaterial-based PTT can be improved.
