Department of Education

Genesis

The Department of Education, Bharathiar University was started in March, 2012 with an objective of bringing out effective and efficient Teacher Educators besides ensuring quality and need based researches in the field of Education. At present, the Department offers M.Phil. and Ph.D. Programmes in Education (Both Full-time & Part time). The University has proposed to start the M.Ed, Programme from 2013-2014 with due recognition of the NCTE. The Department emphasizes a shift from mass teaching to personalized instruction, single learning to multiple learning, rigid teacher dominated to flexible learner centred classroom environment. The thrust areas of research in the Department are Educational ychology. Educational Technology, Environment Education, Pedagogical Techniques, Instructional Designs, Media in Education, Web -Based Learning, English Language Teaching, etc.

Milestones

Requirements for all Students in the M.Ed. Program Milestone

  • Successful completion of written qualifying exam
  • Coursework successfully completed
  • Internship programme in 2nd and 3rd semester
  • Completing one value added and job oriented courses
  • 2 credit of any one SWAYAM programme
  • Review of student’s progress with advisor
  • Thesis Committee appointed and approved by Department of Education
  • Student admitted to thesis candidacy
  • Student completes and files all paperwork required for graduation
  • Thesis accepted by Department of Education

Expected Time of Achievement

  • Upon completion of all required coursework and with no more than 6 remaining hours of electives
  • Within 2 years of program
  • Totally 6 weeks (each 3 weeks) of internship programme should be completed.
  • Within 2 years of program
  • Within 2 years of course completion
  • Every semester
  • Prior to completion of final semester of coursework
  • Following successful completion of written qualifying exam and all coursework (within 2 years of beginning program)
  • Semester prior to graduation
