Department of Communication & Media Studies - Events

The Department has taken effective measures to strengthen the student learning skills during COVID-19 Pandemic with the initiation of Value Added Courses and Job Oriented Courses from the academic year 2020-21 onwards. Dr.R.Muthukrishnan, Professor, Department of Statistics organized a series of online sessions on ‘R’ Software as a Value Added Course for students from the Department to explore the endless possibilities of data analytics relevant to the media industry. The sessions were initiated on an online platform on 10 December 2020 till 31 March 2021 wherein the interactivity was satisfactory. In similar lines, Dr.R.Jaisankar, Professor, Department of Statistics organized sessions on the software from 16 December 2020 to 3 February 2021 wherein students got enormous opportunity to explore the vast gamut of data, both qualitative and quantitative in nature.

Besides, Mr. S.B. Sreenivasan, Principal Consultant, Strategion Brand Consulting Co, EW3 2nd Floor, Tristar Towers, 657, Avanashi Road, Coimbatore – 37 agreed to offer an online Job Oriented Course on Social Media Marketing from 10 May 2021 to 31 May 2021.

 -      Report contains name of the event, date, invited speaker names with affiliation, level of participants, number of participants as well as feedback and outcome.

• In collaboration with Media Research and Training Centre, University of Jaffna, the department hosted a one-day seminar on ‘Environmental Journalism’ with student participants from University of Jaffna and University of Madras on 28th October, 2011, 105 members participated
• Mr. Shyama Prasad, an eminent Film Director in Kerala and winner of prestigious national and international awards visited the department to showcase his best of the movies, one being ‘Electra’.  The two – day (23.01.12 and 24.01.12) Workshop and Seminar programme invoked interaction among the students to the great new world of contemporary cinema with a blend of mythology.
• Dr. Annelies Debrunner, and Prof. Heinz Bonfadelli professors at the University of Zurich, Switzerland visited the department on 13.03.12 and delivered lectures in the areas of “Sociology of Immigrants” and “Media Research”. 40 participants

• The 21st European Union Film Festival (EUFF) was organized by the department from August 22nd to 24th, 2016 screening 23 films from as many European countries at three halls on the campus.  Public participation comprised 1210 registered viewers on the three days put together.
• ‘Inspire Young India’ was organized in the department of communication and media studies and Annapoorna Film Institute, Hyderabad on February 15, 2019.

• The department organized a Street Play “rhf;filf;FHpapy; xU kdpjd;” staged by Ist year students on 26.07.2019, as part of the theatre workshop. Mr.Ravichandran Aravindhan, Theatre artist and trainer conducted the workshop.
