Professor T. Parimelazagan and his research scholar Mr. Rahul Chandran from the Department of Botany were granted Patent for the use of Syzygium mundagam (wild jamun fruit tree) in treating diabetes. The isolated active compounds from the tree bark were used in various tests. The isolated compounds showed promising anti-diabetic activity in pharmacological clinical analysis. This could be used as a natural medication with fewer side effects for diabetes treatment. The University had filed a patent for this research on September 9, 2015 and obtained it on June 25, 2021.
