1. BIOENGINEERING

The biomaterial ‘hydroxyapatite’ (HA), is an important inorganic component of the human teeth and hard tissues. It owns great mechanical strength, biocompatibility, low resorbability, osteoconductivity properties, etc., and shown wide applications in the fields of biomaterials science, orthopedic, dentistry, tissue engineering, and biomedicine. In contradiction to these positive aspects, highly biocompatible property of HA provides high binding affinity to bacterial biofilm and endotoxins. To address this obstacle, our research team right now developing the biomimetic hydroxyapatite composite with traditional medicines and exploration of its therapeutic potentials in hard-tissue engineering and dental health.

2. NANOMEDICINES FOR CANCER THERAPEUTICS

Nanomedicine is an emerging area of study that uses nanoparticles for drug delivery, diagnosis and in vivo imaging. Nanomedicine provides a way to deliver anti-cancer or immunotherapy drugs in a more targeted manner. Nanomaterials can be designed to interact with the body’s immune system. This interaction can boost its function, in the case against cancer, as when there is a potential risk of autoimmune reactions. Currently, we are focusing on nanoliposomes as a potential active target. In our work, we are developing nanoliposomes encapsulated with dual drugs that target receptors on tumor surfaces, thereby targeting cancerous cells.

3. BIO-RESIDUES FOR CANCER PROGNOSIS AND DIAGNOSIS

Cancer is a genetic disease that arises from a variety of factors, including the activation of onco-genes, the malfunction of tumor suppressor genes, or mutations induced by external factors. Prognosis and diagnosis are two primary challenges in the clinical management of cancer patients. Molecular diagnostics is a part of laboratory medicine that involves detecting individual biological molecules. As part of our research, we detect the over-expression of biomarkers in specific tissues, the stages of cancer and the grades of cancer, as well as the progression of cancer and the outcomes of tumor therapy. Our research group also focuses on improving the efficacy of these bio residues as marker molecules for cancer.

4. HERBALISM

The term ‘herbalism’ often known as herbology, phytotherapy, etc., denotes the application of folk herbal medicines originates in the plants or phytocompounds. In developing countries plant-based system plays a crucial role in primary healthcare. Plants and their active phytoconstitutes measured as a valuable source in medicine to maintain and augment health-physically, psychologically and spiritually as well as to treat specific conditions and ailments, even for life-threatening diseases. Our research teams roles and responsibilities in the area of herbalism are extraction of phytochemicals, identifying active compounds, and assessing the bioactivity of those compounds using various technologies.
