Department of Statistics was established in 1979 with one Professor under the erstwhile Post - Graduate Autonomous Centre of University of Madras. Initially, two research programmes leading to Ph.D., and M.Phil., Degrees in Statistics were offered in the Department with two fields of research specialization, namely Statistical Quality Control and Statistical Inference.
- Salient Features
The members of faculty have proved their mettle demonstrating quality teaching and fetching out research publications in the Journals of International Repute. The faculties in the department have many research publication to their credits and have publications in the journals of International / National repute, which include Science Citation Index (SCI) journals, such as Journal of Quality Technology, Journal of Applied Statistics, Journal of Testing and Evaluation, Communications in Statistics, and the journals indexed by Zentralblatt and Mathematical Reviews.
Since its inception, with the continued efforts of faculty members, the department has produced many Doctoral and M.Phil., degrees besides Post Graduates. Research scholars of this department received prestigious national level fellowships from UGC - CSIR after qualifying through NET and INSPIRE fellowship from DST to pursue the research programmes.
