Currently, this Department has for Professor, three Assistant Professors, in addition to two technical officers and three administrative staff. The Department has the following specialization Entomology, Toxicology, Aquatic Biotechnology, Crustacean Biology, Conservation Biology, Disease Proteomics and Marine Ecology. The Department offers M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. programs in Zoology.

The Department of Zoology was supported by DST-FIST first time during 2010 with a total project cost of Rs. 36 lakh for five years (2010-2015). The funds were efficiently utilized by the Department for improving the adequate infrastructure facilities which include major and minor equipment, library, networking facility, etc. As an outcome of this project, more than 50 research papers have been published by the faculty members in the broad field of vector biology, aquatic toxicology, aquaculture, animal diversity, etc., in highly reputed journals. Further, the Zoology Department again funded by the DST-FIST program during 2019 for five years (2019-2024) with a total cost of Rs. 54 lakh for upgrading the infrastructure facilities. The major objectives of this program including the prevalence of diseases and parasites in cultivable aquatic and terrestrial organisms using GIS, nutritional evaluation for cultivable aquatic and terrestrial organisms to improve immunity, assessment of molecular and immunological responses of various diseases and parasitic infestation, assessment of xenobiotics by using in-vivo and in-vitro models and DNA barcoding of selected cultivable aquatic and terrestrial organisms. This Department has well infrastructure facility in terms of equipment like Rear Time PCR, Gel Documentation system and UV-Visible spectrophotometer, and updated library books and networking facilities.
