The various research activities in the University were not much affected by the COVID-19 lockdown. The lockdown provided an opportunity for its faculty members to develop products for protecting against COVID. One of the researches in the Department of Human Genetics and Molecular Biology during that period funded by RUSA 2.0 BEICH resulted in the development of a nano-fibre based respiratory Face Mask Infused with Herbal Extracts having antiviral properties.

The University’s resourceful research programmes have attracted extramural funding from several funding agencies like UGC, DST, DST-SERB, DBT, ICSSR, ICMR, MoE-RUSA, AYUSH, DRDO, TANSCHE, CSIR, and MoEF in addition to development programmes and schemes like DST-PURSE, DST-FIST, UGC-SAP, RUSA, etc. The Government of Tamilnadu, having recognized the research calibre of Bharathiar University, has granted mammoth funding support for establishing a research knowledge park at the University through the GLUE grant. Awards and research recognitions

Researchers in the top 2%: Bharathiar University has been accredited to have 18 faculty members with recognition of the Top 2% of scientists of the world listed by Stanford University 2022.

High impact publications 

Bharathiar University was awarded the Most Prestigious Clarivate Analytics India Research Excellence – Citation Awards 2019, powered by Web of Science in the category “State University” in their 7th edition for citations, high quality, and high impact publications. As per the SCOPUS database, Bharathiar University has 11169 publications with 162623 citations and an ‘h’ index of 145 as of December 2022.

State-of-art laboratories 

There are 136 well-equipped laboratories spread over various departments for conducting advanced research activities by faculty members, research scholars, and postgraduate students from within and outside the University.

Bharathiar University also supports research by providing seed money for the development and enhancement of research infrastructure to meet international standards. The University provides annual grant of Rs. 20–30 lakh for every Science Departments, and Rs. 5–10 lakhs to Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Students and faculty members pay visits and take up research training in abroad institutions collaborated with Bharathiar University periodically with research and in-person support from the University.
