Department of History

Genesis

The Department of History and Tourism has been started in the academic year (2016-17). It is a pioneering venture of the university devoted to the cause of historical study with a view to contribute to research in History. As the saying goes “History makes men wise”, the department offers papers to improve the understanding of the students about the world events and relate them to the present scenario as such. “History repeats itself”, hence learning of History may provide solutions to most of our present-day formidable problems. The papers offered by the department are based on the demand from the students for competitive examination oriented syllabus. Also 4 courses related to Civil service examinations are offered under CBCS system to other Department students foreseeing the growing need among the candidates appearing for those examinations. The department plays a significant role in Teaching, Training, Research, Publication and Advocacy.

The motto of the department is to Protect, Propagate and Promote the Historical knowledge with academic prowess. The department continues to create an environment of cutting-edge research in the discipline of history as well newly-emerging interdisciplinary fields. It looks forward to a future of intellectual exchange at home and abroad, and to promote a better understanding of human experience through the lens of history.

The Department has also been serving as a centre for the promotion of Historical knowledge by some extension activities through the “Bharathian History Students’ Club” which was started on 12.01.2017 on the occasion of the ‘National Youth Day’ celebration.

The BHSC’s mission is to make a deep imprint on the historical world of India by creating awareness among the general public about History through various activities like camps, lectures, workshops etc., by receiving the patronage and co-operation of scholars of national and international repute.
