Currently, our department offers research program in five different fields viz,

2.1.M.Phil. Microbial Biotechnology

This one year research program facilitates the candidate to understand the process of conducting research culminating in a novel finding and a research publication. This provides a taste of research for the candidate to decide either to indulge deeply into research making it as a career or to quit pursue alternative hunger of knowledge. The scholar has to complete 3 theory paper including one specialised paper related to their choice of research field. For completing the program, the candidate has to submit a dissertation of the research work done which shall be evaluated by an external examiner and has to defend the work in public viva voce examination.

Part II

Dissertation 

This research Program is aimed to give a glimpse of research world to the starters who want to pursue their career in research. This program benefits in two ways (i) student would gain research experience and would understand the depth of knowledge required for that (ii) the faculty shall train and prepare the candidate for the next level of research in his field of specialisation. This would serve as a learning/adopting period for both the candidate and the supervisor. 

2.2.Ph.D. Microbial Biotechnology

This research program has the highest flexibility in time from a minimum period of 2 years to a maximum period of 8 years. This provides the candidate ample time to explore new ideas, evince a novel concept, ensure the mechanism of the concept, emend if needed and emerge with a constructive prominent result/finding. Around 3 University research fellows are being provided for the research scholars of this department. Students striving to contribute to the field of microbial biotechnology shall find suitable niche in this department and shall have an opportunity to work with a good team of research scholars and supervisors. The quality of the research work done by the scholar shall be measured in terms of publications in highly impact journals. Before plunging into full research, the candidate has to complete a course work 

The work plan and work progress would be evaluated by Doctoral committee consisting of supervisor, HoD/Senior Faculty and Vice Chancellor nominated external member, after the approval of the DCM which meet at least twice to analyse the progress, the candidate shall submit the synopsis. It is mandate that the candidate should have published at least one peer reviewed journal with Impact factor as Web of Science standard. After three months of the submission of synopsis, the candidate shall proceed with the submission of thesis. The thesis would be evaluated by one external National expert and One International expert. Finally the candidate has to defend the research in public viva voce examination passing which the candidate shall be rewarded with PhD in Microbial Biotechnology.
