Need based Research

Bharathiar University strives for need-based research since its inception. The main objective is to initiate and carry out innovative research of social relevance by applying emerging technologies.  Major research focus over the years is on go-green technologies like solar cells, validation of traditional therapeutic agents, and conservation of biological resources, biofuels, clean environment, and climate change. On the other, faculty members of the University are also involved in cutting-edge research in the field of biotechnology, physical sciences, nanotechnology, chemical sciences, and cancer therapeutics. 

Interdisciplinary Research

To promote interdisciplinary research, faculties and students are encouraged to undertake collaborative projects resulting in attraction of extramural funding from various government and non-government agencies. Such amalgamation includes Departments like Chemistry-Biotechnology/Microbial Biotechnology; Biotechnology–Nanoscience and Technology; Botany–Biotechnology, Human Genetics–Zoology, etc. These interdisciplinary researches have resulted in publications in several high-calibre journals and product development.
