The University’s resourceful research programmes have attracted extramural funding from several funding agencies like UGC, DST, DST-SERB, DBT, ICSSR, ICMR, MoE-RUSA, AYUSH, DRDO, TANSCHE, CSIR, and MoEF in addition to development programmes and schemes like DST-PURSE, DST-FIST, UGC-SAP, RUSA, etc. The Government of Tamilnadu, having recognized the research calibre of Bharathiar University, has granted mammoth funding support for establishing a research knowledge park at the University through the GLUE grant. A sum of Rs. 21 Crores was allotted and utilized in RUSA – Phase I, for Infrastructure development and installation of State-of-art equipments. Subsequently, the MHRD has sanctioned Rs. 50 crores under RUSA – Phase II for innovative research. Of the Rs. 50 crore initial allotments in RUSA–Phase II, Rs. 15 crores was used to establish Bharathiar Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Career Hub and Rs. 35 crores to establish Bharathiar Cancer Theranostics Research Centre under Research Innovation Scheme. Based on the highest h-index among Indian institutions, Bharathiar University was granted the DST PURSE grant twice. Moreover, 8 departments of the University have received DST– FIST support and 8 departments have received UGC–SAP support. Faculty members of the University are also involved in International bilateral collaborative government projects (e.g., Indo-Japan and Indo-UK) implemented by national and International agencies.
