Department of Physics - Achievements

Department Projects

The competence of the department over the years has been recognized by the Central and State Governments. As a hallmark, University Grants Commission has recognized the department as a “Centre with Potential for Excellence in Particular Area (CPEPA) and sanctioned Rs. 3.5 Crores to establish research facilities to carry out specialized research on “Solar energy materials and devices”.

CPEPA (2016 - 2021)  ~  354 Lakhs

 

The department was also supported under the DST-PURSE program during Phase-I & Phase-I -II for the creation of major facilities, fellowships, maintenance.

Apart from these major funding, faculty members operate major research projects from various funding agencies like UGC, CSIR, DST, DRDO, BRNS, BRFST, and international agencies. (As of 2021 - Details in respective Faculty members page)

The University grants commission has supported this department under the special assistance program at the level of SAP DRS I &  SAP – DRS –II

The government of Tamilnadu has identified this department as the “Centre of Excellence” for PG and research programs to establish state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities and advanced research laboratories on par with international standards.

At the National level, the Government of India opulently supports the Department through the Scheme of DST-FIST (Levels 0 and 1)
