Department of Chemistry - Programmes Offered

M.Sc. Chemistry

Eligibility: A Pass in B.Sc. Chemistry with Mathematics / Physics as one of the ancillary subjects.

Duration: 2 Years

Strength: 32

Ph.D.,

Candidates having a minimum of 55% of marks in M.Sc. Chemistry or equivalent thereof.  Relaxations of 5% of marks may be allowed for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Differently abled categories. In addition, the candidates are required to pass in Common Eligibility Test (CET) conducted by the University.  However passing the test is not required in the case of MPhil/NET/SET/GATE cleared candidates. 

The duration of the doctoral programme is minimum period of two years after the completion of M.Phil. or three years after completion of M.Sc. The main objective is to provide concrete background, methodology and advanced scientific research to the doctoral candidate.

The programme usually carried out with international collaboration with reputed research centers, by there the students are allowed to gain advanced scientific technologies so that it is easy for them to transfer the knowledge to industry.

The students used to develop independent scientific research for critical analysis. The quality of the research work carried out by the scholar is reflected and evaluated by means of publications in the reputed journal with good impact factor, so that the candidate fulfill the current need of the employer. 

Prior to the research work the candidate has to complete the course work. The research progress has been evaluated by the doctoral committee consist of the Research Supervisor, Head of the department and External Examiner nominated by the Vice-Chancellor.  After the conduct of the two Doctoral committee meeting, the candidate shall submit the synopsis.

It is mandatory that the candidate should have published his/her research finding at least one peer reviewed journal with impact factor of web of science standard. After the submission of synopsis, the candidate should submit the thesis within months as prescribed by Centre for Research & Evaluation (CRE), Bharathiar University. The thesis will be evaluated by an external examiner in the national level and another examiner in the international level. After the compilation of the report, the students should defend the thesis in the public viva-voce examination and then the candidate shall be awarded Ph.D. in Chemistry.

The main objective is to provide unlimited opportunities to accomplish carrier goals through quality education and technical expertise to transform the department into a world class institution and to provide excellent knowledgeable students to cater the need of the society.
