The Department of Computer Science was established in the year 2005 with dedicated, well–qualified faculty, technical staff and students. The Department is committed to be an international, multi-disciplinary centre of excellence in Computer Science through education and research.  The Department offers the programmes M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D.

The Department of Computer Applications was established in the year 2008.  It has its roots from the year 1985 and it is one of the well known departments in the field of computer applications education and research. It plays a vital role in both academic and research contributions to the society.  The Department of Computer Applications offers Master of Computer Applications (M.C.A.), M.Sc. Data Analytics, M.Sc. Cyber Security, M.Phil.

           The Department of Communication and Media Studies was established in May, 2008 to delve deeper into the science of communication with a view to shaping media professionals for the increasingly progressive industry and to provide with sought-after leaders to address the grave issues penetrating the society with the help of the media they are attached to.

The Department of Commerce was started in the year 1990 as a Research Department with Ph.D as the only course with Finance, Marketing, Accounting and Human Resource Management as specialization. Apart from the core specialization the department is also contributing to the allied activities such as Consumer 
issues and Skill Development.

The department came into existence as part of the PG Centre of Madras University in the year 1973. Since 1982, the department has emerged as one of the full-fledged University Department of Bharathiar University. During the inception, the department functioned with 3 faculty members.

The Department of Botany was established in 1972 at the Postgraduate Centre of the University of Madras. Since its inception, the Department has been offering M.Sc. in Plant Science, M.Phil., and Ph.D. programmes in Botany, with research expertise spanning Mycology, Microbiology, Plant Physiology, Nutraceuticals and Phytomedicine, Tissue Culture and Reproductive Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics and Plant Breeding, and Plant Systematics.

The Department of Biotechnology at Bharathiar University was established in the year 1990 with 2 faculty exclusively for research under the headship of Prof. R. Boopathy, a Biochemist and Prof. K. Swaminathan, a Microbiologist. In 2001, post-graduate programmes were started, M.Sc. Industrial Biotechnology followed by M.Sc. Biotechnology in the subsequent year.

In the year 2001, Bioinformatics programme was initiated under Department of Botany. Research Degrees (Ph.D. and M.Phil.) were introduced at 2005. Then created as independent Department under School of Life Sciences 2007. DBT Bioinformatics Facility was inaugurated in the year 2008. P. G. Diploma in Cheminformatics was started as an innovative programme with the support of UGC at 2011. Totally 6 faculties are working in the department.
