Genesis

The M.Sc., Medical Physics Programme was started in the Department of Physics in the academic year 2002-2003 in collaboration with G. Kuppusamy Naidu Memorial Hospital (GKNM Hospital), Coimbatore.

The approval for RSO level-III Certificate was obtained from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai in 2004.

Genesis

The Department of Zoology was started in 1973 as one of the departments of Madras University Post Graduate center at Coimbatore under the headship of (Late) Prof. G. Sundararajulu. When Bharathiar University was formed in 1982, the Department of Zoology became a part of it. Ever since its inception it has been promoting teaching, research and extension activities in the field of Zoology in this part of the state. This Department has a good history with the mentorship of eminent professors such as Dr.

Genesis

The Centre for Women’s Studies was started in the year 2004 with the financial support of the University Grants Commission in X plan period. It was upgraded into full-fledged Department of Women’s Studies in the year 2008 in XI plan period. During the XII plan period the Department of Women’s Studies has been upgraded to phase II in 2012, in the same plan period the department has upgraded to phase III from April 2016 onwards with enhanced financial assistance.

Genesis

The Department of Textiles and Apparel Design was established in 2011 and funded under UGC-Innovative Programme during the XII plan period (2012-2017) offering M.Sc. Textiles and Apparel Design. In 2013 M.Phil and Ph.D programmes were introduced. The department has five qualified faculties specialized in multifarious fields of textile research.

Genesis

The Department of Tamil, one among the thirty five departments, was established on 02.08.1985. The M.Phil and Ph.D. Programmes was introduced during the academic year 1985 - 86 itself. The Post Graduate course has been launched during the academic year 1986-87.
